There are many animals, who, though far from being large, are yet capable of raising ideas of the sublime,
because they are considered as objects of terror.
As serpents and poisonous animals of almost all kinds.
And to things of great dimensions, if we annex an adventitious idea of terror, they become without comparison greater
– Edmond Burke 1757

Exhibition Rationale:
My current art practise and research is primarily focussed on exploring concepts surrounding ‘Zoonoses’.
The minimus exhibition is my first foray into sculptural/installation work and has a specific focus on the role of tiny zoonotic hosts such as mosquitos and fleas, both capable of causing mass destruction.

The work created for minimus is my response to Edmund Burke’s quote (above), exploring extemities in size and scale. Historically plague infected fleas have been responsible for the loss of an estimated 75 million lives.  During World War 11 plague fleas were used as weapons of war. Worldwide, the World Health Organization reports there are still between 1,000 – 3,000 cases of plague each year.  The mosquito is regarded as the most deadly animal in the world.  According to the World Health Organization, mosquito bites result in the deaths of more than 1 million people every year.

The mechanism of lithography is used to explore the way humans treat animals in the context of fear of disease.

The Skin Im In

The Skin Im In

SOLO EXHIBITION

2014 July 10 – July 26 The Skin Im In, Solo Exhibition Project Gallery, Griffith University, QLD
2015 Apr 24 – June 6 The Skin Im In, Solo Exhibition, Logan Art Gallery, Qld

Skin is one of the primary elements of our physical makeup. Each bruise, hair, scar and wrinkle becomes a noted passage in the diary of measured time as well as daily life. This private record of events becomes a public show, provoking acknowledgement, acceptance and investigation of one’s own identity and history as marked on the skin. This concept proved to be the basis of this solo exhibition titled ‘The Skin Im In’

Mea Prosapea

Mea Prosapea

SOLO EXHIBITION, Mia Prosapia,  Jan 11 – Feb 18 2012 Logan Art Gallery, QLD

Translating to ‘my female family lineage’, Mea Prosapia is a very personal and focused examination of the dysfunction of the female body. It draws on my perspective as a mother, sister, daughter, granddaughter and sufferer of both type 1 diabetes and Hashimoto’s thyroiditis.

Mea Prosapia personally defines my genealogical place and connection with my mother, grandmother, sisters, and potentially my daughter.  A blueprint of flaws that connects us all makes the link instinctively closer.
